[There's silence for a moment as the man thinks on how to word this. When he does, it's short and straight to the point.]

...I need to find personal transportation. Does anyone have anything I can borrow or tell me where I can find something? It's rather important.

[ The thing with this boy is if he sees that someone is worried or hurt about someone close to them, he relates to the feeling immediately. So there's something almost guilty in his tone, something that indicates he feels sort of bad about giving Adam so much shit. ]

Yeah, I noticed that. I mean honestly if I saw Kelly or my mom here I wouldn't be any better, but. [ His tone sounds just wee bit strangled. He misses them. And he's afraid for them. ]

How do you try to start a dojo here? I mean. The apocalypse isn't exactly good for business.

Who says you need money? Just need to have a place and people wanting to learn. I already got one of them.

Depends on what definition you look at. And I was talking about a place; the high school gym here in Dissimulo.

Dissimulo? [ So he's been avoiding both people and his comm since he got here. This is him trying to keep up, now he's sort of resigned himself to not finding his family. ]

And there's a high school left?

High school in both cities and the university in Spero.

I saw the university, I've been staying at it. But there are high school classes and everything? Really? [ Mixed feelings on school, but somehow some normalcy would be nice. ] Even high school at the end of the universe is probably better than there I was last year, not gonna lie.

There might have been at one point before I had arrived back in June but I haven't seen anyone offer classes over the network. Maybe once things quiet down it'll happen.

Was school bad for you back home?

I, uh. Went to military school, actually. [ Yeah. That automatically paints him as a fuckup, and he knows it. There's something in his voice that makes him sound resigned to the telling. ] Which is not exactly great in and of itself.

It seems there's breaks in which things happen. It all depends on what goes on.

[Ha, don't worry. Adam's not thinking 'fuck up'. Military school isn't just for that.]

I guess it depends on the experience people have there. I'm not someone who assumes on first impression. Sometimes it can get you into trouble when you do that.

[ There's a pause that says that sometimes things are exactly the way they seem on the surface. ]

Yeah, well. My experience there wasn't exactly great, either. [ His voice is slightly taut, definitely defensive. But he's grudgingly still going to try to give Adam a chance today, since it's not exactly the greatest day for the man. After a beat, he goes on. ]

I transferred there after being banned from setting foot in my high school's swim team's pool a year and a half ago.

[ No details. What he's saying is he's a definite, grade-A fuckup. ]

...do you want me to ask or shall we leave it at that?

[ Have an uncomfortable silence that says he doesn't want to talk about it. Certainly not with you, Adam. He doesn't know you yet. ]

...Broke someone's arm. And a whole row of lockers. [ That's all he's giving on it, though. ]

[That's quite a feat there, Michael. But there could be many reasons why he did that: defending himself, anger, being taunted by the other. There was no way he was going to say and Adam wasn't going to push it.]

...I see.

[His tone wasn't judging nor was it scolding. He kept it neutral just so the boy could feel a bit more comfortable talking to him.]

[ Yeah. See, he's taking 'I see' as Adam trying to be polite and really thinking 'holy fuck, psycho boy'. Of course, specifically he destroyed the row of lockers by throwing someone into them, thereby breaking his arm, but it's not a story he likes to repeat. He just sounds shut down, guarded and prickly again. ]

I was gonna go back to normal school in the fall, actually. [ That sound bitter as hell. Last he was aware, it was summer. He doesn't know he's missed a full month and a half in a coma. He figures it's winter here because, you know. Different planet and all. ]

Was that when they took you from?

[ A long inhale. ]

No. [ That was fairly curt. The next sentence less so. ] Well, yeah, but... it's still a month until school would have started, so. [ So there was a very different thing that he was thinking of when thinking of what was happening at home before he came here. ]
